Q: What do Alton Towers, a cash machine, and Cambridge University have in common?

A: They’re all in your car – along with millions of other Points of Interest waiting within your Navman GPS device.

London, May 2007: GPS pioneer Navman is encouraging sat nav owners to explore their Point of Interest database this bank holiday, after a study showed that 34% of their customers have yet to tap into this useful feature. More than a third of users are ignoring over 1.6 million locations – from casinos to concert halls, golf courses to theatres – that can be reached using Navman devices at the click of a button.

Disappointed that many think that it will be tricky to use or are simply forgetting that it is on their device, Navman is determined to let users know about all the fantastic places – art galleries, opera houses, sports stadiums - they’re missing out on, and help them to understand that the technology couldn’t be simpler to use. At the same time, the company is also urging drivers to recognise that Points of Interest can be an invaluable resource to those on the road: those urgently searching for a car park, a repair facility, or even a doctor’s surgery or hospital will find all the information they need on their GPS system.

Using Navman’s devices, motorists are able to search for Points of Interest by category, or can instead choose to view the ones nearest to them. If you know exactly what you’re looking for, just scroll through the categories on the POI menu – which include locations such as tourist spots, hotels, parks and shopping centres – and click on whichever you need to find. Whatever you’re looking for, be it a restaurant or a railway station, several options will appear, and all you need to do in order to be directed straight there is click on the one you prefer. If on the other hand, you’re looking for inspiration, just search for the POIs nearest to you – using the GPS signal, your sat nav will calculate your position and show you locations of interest in the vicinity.

‘Many motorists are using their sat navs every day, without getting the most out of the device,’ says Colin Holloway, PR Director at Navman Europe. ‘Our Points of Interest can inspire your trip, directing you to places such as amusement parks or museums, or simply make your journey more convenient by locating the nearest car park or cash machine for you. We think that our customers should take a look this Bank Holiday, and see how they can enhance their lives using technology that’s already available to them.’
