You need to have a clear line of sight to the sky to get a GPS fix.
In some vehicles, the cigar lighter socket remains live after you switch the ignition off. So you should also unplug the Navman in-car charger from the socket when you remove your Navman from your vehicle.
If you find your GPS signal strength improves when your Navman is outside your car, you probably have a heat-reflecting windshield and therefore need to use an external antenna.
Snow, hail and heavy rain can affect the strength of your GPS signal because minute particles of metal in the raindrops, hail or snowflakes reflect the signal!
Try installing the latest Service Pack for your Navman if you get error messages, such as “Assert failure”.
Don’t just take your Navman device out of your car – take the mount as well as thieves are known to look for mounts as a clue that there is also a sat-nav hidden somewhere!
If your Navman is stolen, enter its serial number in the forum at www.pocketgpsworld.com which has launched a national UK register of stolen devices in partnership with the Police.
As Navman devices only receive signals (and do not transmit), we can’t block or lock them like a stolen mobile phone.
When searching for a destination, you’ll get the best results if you only enter part of an address - for example the postcode and road name.
The iCN 550 Traffic Module needs to have a power source (such as the 12V in-car power cable) otherwise the Traffic Module will not work and you will not get real-time traffic updates.
The best places for the iCN 550's Traffic Module antenna is horizontal 1” below the top of the windshield, horizontal 1” above the bottom of the windshield or vertical in the middle of the windshield.
Try to keep your Navman away from sources of heat, such as hot air vents, as the LCD screen is temperature-sensitive.

Turning the brightness down on your Navman will help extend your battery life.
You’ll get better battery life if you let it go completely flat before fully recharging it.
You can improve the quality or volume of sound on your 300 and 500 series Navmans by plugging in your own headphones or speakers.
And don’t forget, your Navman is a navigation aid, not an autopilot!
